Royal Mail Mediation Scheme Announced

This is an ongoing project between Royal Mail and TCM to promote mediation across an area of approximately 6500 postmen and women and 350 operational managers within Royal Mail.

by David Liddle | 16th Oct 2007
Whilst Royal Mail has been in the news a lot recently for some employment relations challenges, the needs of the company to bring internal disputes to a positive resolution has never been greater.

Royal Mail decided to use TCM to support a cultural change programme based on building adult-adult relationships particularly in conflict resolution.  The current culture has a large amount of conflict embedded.  Ingrained within the culture is a history of parent child relationships causing conflicts and problems.

Steps taken so far include the training of 15 senior managers and creating a talent pool of managers in core mediation skills.  Second engage members in the area management team (AMT) to secure senior management buy in.
“This was one of the most enjoyable and worthwhile training experiences that I have ever had the pleasure of attending and one that I personally believe will make a difference every day...Many thanks." Brian Ellis, Senior Manager at Royal Mail.
The project is ongoing and will be closely monitored However, even after a very short period of working together Jennifer Stubbs, Operations Manager at Royal Mail says:
“ My experience of TCM has been that they are passionate about mediation.”
