Introduction
This course, which comprises Unit 2 of the National Certificate in Workplace Mediation, is suitable for people who have completed Unit 1 (The Essentials of Workplace Mediation) or who already possess a recognised mediation qualification and wish to undertake a certified 'conversion course'.This highly experiential course enables participants to gain advanced skills and practice in mediation, negotiation, problem-solving and facilitation.
The course is structured around three case studies which are:

- Supportive and
- A positive learning experience.
Course Content
Each day of Applied Workplace Mediation Skills utilises a carefully prepared case study to create a supportive and very hands on learning environment. Each participant has an opportunity to mediate through an entire case from start to finish and the facilitators will assess practice and provide detailed one to one feedback. All participants must meet the agreed minimum assessment standards to pass this course and achieve accreditation.
Day one
Recap/preparing for the assessments:
The principles of mediation
The FAIR mediation process
The practice of the mediator
The key mediation skills: Reframing, active listening, negotiation and problem solving skills
Day Two
Advanced and applied mediation skills:
Case study one: Mediation between two colleagues in dispute. The dispute includes various allegations and centres around conflicting work styles and approaches.
Debrief and feedback from tutors.
Day Three
Advanced and applied mediation skills:
Case study two: Mediation in a case between an employee and their manager involving bullying, performance management, power imbalance and a return to work
Debrief and feedback from tutors
Advanced and applied mediation skills:
Case study three: Mediation in an allegation of statutory discrimination.
Debrief and feedback from tutors.
Support for Learners
At the time of making a booking, participants will be able to access comprehensive preparatory materials including articles, reading lists and pre-course questionnaires. During the course, participants will benefit from the expertise of a lead facilitator plus two trained and qualified assessors for the final three days. On completion of the course, we provide detailed learner reports and we continue to provide ongoing development activities through the Professional Mediators Association (PMA). This unique level of support is the same for open access and in-house courses.
