PMA Master Class - 11th May: Refine your Mediation Skills (RRR)

Irene Grindell, Dispute Resolution Adviser at TCM, will be running a one day mediation practice workshop in which delegates will have the opportunity to practice and critique various stages of the mediation process. Using fresh, challenging role plays based on real cases, delegates will be able to explore, learn and practice different approaches to demanding mediation situations. Some key areas to be covered at the event will bereframing, dealing with strong emotions and overcoming impasse. As always at PMA days, there will be opportunities for questions and debate throughout as well as a chance for delegates to share their own mediation experiences for group reflection. Additionally, dependent on the numbers and volunteers, there may also be an opportunity on the day to record footage and receive feedback during playback. Those who do not wish to partake in recorded skills practice will still have equal opportunity for real time feedback.

This event will benefit new or experienced mediators. Come along to refresh and enhance your skills, learn new approaches, be challenged and meet other mediators.

About th Trainer

Irene has been mediating for 12 years. She was the first Director for Tower Hamlets Mediation Service (THMS); her role included in-house mediation training for new volunteer mediators and all external training carried out on behalf of the service. This included facilitating team building days, and courses on dealing with difficultbehaviours. She also worked closely in an ongoing supportive role with both staff and volunteers within the organisation, managing internal conflict as part of her role. 

Irene has worked on over 200 mediation cases and has trained hundreds of people. As Director for THMS, Irene handled the most difficult and demanding cases over a period of 8 years and therefore continually honed her conflict resolution skills. 

Irene has extensive knowledge of conflict and how it affects people. She has been trained by many professionals in various areas of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation Studies from Birkbeck University. She also trained in Non Violent Communication (NVC) in 2003 and has continued to practice in this particular area since then.
